Camp Syncro '05
For Death Valley '05 we split our time between two different campgrounds, Panamint Springs and Furnace Creek.
Panamint Springs is situated near Monday’s 4x4 route and also close to the additional activities in this portion of the park, for Tuesday's "free day". Likewise, Furnace Creek is situated between Wednesday’s and Friday’s 4x4 routes and nearer Thursday’s suggested attractions.

Panamint Springs - Evenings of Sunday, November 20 and Monday, November 21
We used 5 sites in a row which accommodated 10 Syncros with two per site. The sites at Panamint have no “hook-ups” and the campground calls them “Tent Sites”. The restroom was directly across from our sites and a water spigot was nearby as well. Fuel (Shell) is available at Panamint Springs as well as a restaurant, motel and a small store all across the road from the campground.
Panamint Springs is a small western-style resort located in the beautiful Panamint Valley in Death Valley National Park. Marvelous views of distant sand dunes and the soaring 11,000' Panamint Mountains complete the setting for leisure dining and relaxation.

Directions to Panamint Springs:
Driving From Las Vegas (175 miles)
From 15 Freeway, just south of Las Vegas, take Highway 160 West to Pahrump. Just 3 miles past the intersection with Highway 372, turn left on Highway 210, called ' State Line Road,' and proceed 27 miles to Death Valley Junction.
At Death Valley Junction, highlighted by the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel, make a quick "right-and-a-left" on Highway 190 toward Death Valley and Furnace Creek. Remain West on Highway 190 for 93 miles to Panamint Springs Resort, passing Dante's View, Zabriskie Point, Furnace Creek, the Sand Dunes, and Stovepipe Wells Village.
Driving From Los Angeles (235 miles)
From the 5 Freeway North (Golden State Freeway), a few miles past its juncture with 495 Freeway, stay right for 14 Freeway North (Antelope Valley Freeway).
After 70 miles, passing Palmdale, Lancaster, and Rosamond, the 14 Freeway North continues on to become Main Street for the town of Mojave. At the end of town, turn right to remain on the Highway 14 North. After 40 miles, Highway 14 North merges and becomes Highway 395 North.
Continue another 45 miles to Olancha, turn right onto Highway 190 toward Death Valley.
The next 15 miles proceeds northeast along the shore of the once great Owens Lake, then merges with Highway 136, and continues east another 25 miles to Panamint Springs Resort.

Camp Syncro at Panamint Springs:
Furnace Creek - Evenings of Tuesday - Friday, November 22 - 25
Furnace Creek is a National Park Service Campground. We camped at one of their two "Group" sites. The site accommodates up to 40 people, with more than sufficient room for our group. Vehicles are only allowed on the gravel roadway which encircles the site. It was sort of a “circle the wagons” layout with our Syncros encircling the common area in the center.
The group site is situated away from most other sites, so our group had a little breathing room from the other sites in this rather large campground. The bathrooms and water are located about 100 yards away toward the rest of the campground.
Furnace Creek Campground is open all year and is located 196 feet below sea level. The campground has 136 individual sites and two group sites with water, tables, fireplaces, and flush toilets.
Next to the campground is the Death Valley Visitor’s Center and the Death Valley Museum.
A quarter mile south of the campground is the Furnace Creek Ranch resort. It has a general store, restaurant. There are also showers available for $3.00 (in 2005) at the resort’s pool house. Buying a shower does not provide entrance to the pool, but I have heard of people “sneaking in”. Fuel (Chevron) is also available in Furnace Creek.
