An adventure in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at the epic Lake Tahoe!
July 12 - 18, 2015. Our group experienced the high mountain 4x4 trails to peaks with views of Lake Tahoe, including one along the eastern end of the famous Rubicon Trail. In addition to Syncro 4WD trails, we' enjoyed much of what the area had to offer including kayaking, swimming, biking, hiking, photography, and even parasailing! |
Trip Overview
We camped north of Lake Tahoe at Mt. Rose Campground in Nevada and spent the week exploring the region. We tackled 4WD trails on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to visit interesting places including peaks with views of Lake Tahoe. On Tuesday and Thursday, we rested or enjoyed lots of non-4WD local recreation.
Camp Syncro's Mt. Rose location was about 9 miles and 15 minutes away from Incline Village on the north shore of the lake. The campground is situated high on the western slope of Mount Rose at an elevation of 9,300 feet. A scenic forest of lodgepole pine, Jeffrey pine, white pine and red fir covers the campground, offering pleasant shade in most sites. Our sites provide picnic and utility tables, campfire rings, grills and food storage lockers. The campground provides vault toilets, drinking water, and paved parking spurs.

Itinerary:
Sunday, July 12: Gather at Camp Syncro and get acquainted.
Monday, July 13: 4x4 adventure to the summit of Genoa Peak on the eastern side of Lake Tahoe.
Tuesday, July 14: Independent recreation or rest up to each Syncronaut. Several Syncronauts enjoyed a fun kayak paddle on Lake Tahoe. In the evening back at Camp Syncro, we enjoyed "Taco Night", our first group meal of the week.
Wednesday, July 15: The second of our three off-road trips, this time was an easy trek up to the the peak of Mt. Watson north of the lake for another set of fabulous views. After the short trip to Mt. Watson, we visited Donner State Memorial Park in Truckee for lunch at Donner Lake and see the visitors center with displays on local Native Americans, the Donner Party, and builders of the transcontinental railroad. We here there's some great ice cream in Truckee too!
Thursday, July 16: Independent recreation up to each Syncronaut. There's a lot to choose from around Lake Tahoe.
Some made good use of hammock time! In the evening back at Camp Syncro, we had Pizza Night, our second group meal of the week. Yes, we had a pizza oven in camp and cooked ready-to-bake pizzas from a pizzeria in Incline Village!
Friday, July 17: The last of our three 4WD trips, this time up McKinney Creek, the eastern end of the iconic Rubicon Trail. No, we're not "doing the Rubicon", just a much tamer portion than the sections that have made this trail famous. This might be described best as "a Taste of the Rubicon" or a Rubicon "glimpse".
Saturday, July 18: Our adventure's over, said our goodbyes and parted ways to head home.

Additional Activities and Information:
Monday Night!
Raffle - everyone gets a prize. Sponsored by our generous friends at GoWesty
Tuesday Taco Night!
For most meals, we each provide for ourselves, but for Tuesday's "Taco Night" we coordinate our efforts and create a fun Taco Fiesta dinner to share. Delicious, with plenty of desserts too!
Thursday Pizza Night! <NEW!
Thursday's "Pizza Night" we'll be baked fresh pizzas right at camp. This, to the generosity of a couple Syncronauts who volunteered to bring their portable, propane powered pizza oven!
Digital Photo Scavenger Hunts!
The "digital photo scavenger hunt" has been a perennial favorite of Syncro Safari! We had fun hunts again this year where Syncronaut teams got lists of particular items to photograph. Each Syncro's team tracked down these sites or people or activities and takes digital pictures. Back at camp, we share the photos and see who snapped what. The teams with the most matching photos each round win the AAA award. Appreciation, Applause and Accolades and a real prize too!
Photos judged and prizes awarded on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings.
