4x4 TRAILS & STORIES PHOTOS CAMP SYNCRO SYNCRONAUTS
Trip Overview
We've had some mild and some wild trails on Syncro Safaris over the past several years. This year's event was for those looking for an adventure on the milder end of the spectrum. This year's Syncro Safari featured beaches, mild trails, and great scenery.
Syncro Safari, Pacific Coast '11, August 14-21, 2011, featured a trip up the central California coast starting on the beach at Oceano Dunes recreation area, then staying a few nights on the Bir Sur coast, and finishing the week at Half Moon Bay. A thouroughly beachy Safari! The weather was cool (even cold at times) on the coast, but the inland heat during a side trip had us looking for shade.
Order your cool Syncro Safari, Pacific Coast '11 stuff!

Location Information & Campsites
The trip was a route up the central California Coast with three distinct campsites and a lot of fun activities and beautiful scenery. The talk of closing the Pismo beach area to vehicles is escalating, so if you've ever wanted to camp right on the beach, do it soon, while you still can.

Syncro Safari is "Family Friendly"
Syncro Safari is not a bash our Syncros "guy's only" event. It's intended to get to know other Syncronauts and their families while doing some mild - moderate 4-wheeling and exploring interesting places. So, bring the family! Pacific Coast '11 had 22% kids with 5 attending.
Tuesday Taco Night
For all other meals, we each provided for all our own, but Tuesday evening "Taco Night" is a highlight where we coordinated our efforts and had a group Mexican dinner to share. Delicious, with plenty of desseerts too! :-)
Digital Camera Scavenger Hunts <---NEW THIS YEAR!
This year we did a "digital camera scavenger hunt" which kept those shutters clicking! The way it worked is that everyone who wanted to participate got a list of particular items to take photos of. Each Syncro was a team that tracked down these sites or people or activities (or whatever's on the list) and took a picture. Back at camp, we shared the photos and see who snapped what. The team with the most matching photos won the AAA award. Appreciation, Applause and Accolades! At Pacific Coast '11 we had three seperate hunts won by Detlev & Dunia Hanschke, Curtis & Sany Smith, and Richard & Suzie Jones. Check out some of the scavenger hunt photos on the photo page.
Syncrocaching at Syncro Safari
A feature that started last year and returned for this year's adventure was "Syncrocaching".
Syncrocaching is Syncronauts using Syncros to place and find geocaches. Ever heard of Geocaching? I'm sure many of you have. Geocaching is a high-tech "treasure" hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. The web site
http://www.geocaching.com
provides all the details.
Well, if you're interested in Geocaching and drive a Syncro, there's "Syncrocaching". We placed one Syncrocache during the trip in the San Martin Top area we visited during our adventure. Find the location of this at www.Syncrocaching.com, and get out there with your Syncro!
If you're interested in becoming more involved in Syncrocaching, there's a Yahoo group for us. Not surprisingly, it's called Syncrocaching! Sign up if you'd like at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SyncroCaching
Costs:
As is the norm with Syncro Safari events, the only cost was dividing up the camping fees. This year the total was $133/vehicle for all 7 nights, Aug 14-20. Syncro Safari is a not-for-profit operation.

GoWesty Sponsors Syncro Safari, Pacific Coast '11!
GoWesty sponsored Syncro Safari this year by providing a number of give-away items for our raffle. Also, GoWesty was gracious enough to host our group for a tour and even treat us to a very nice continental breakfast!
Thanks GoWesty!
